Jeff Goldblum returning home in June for Benedum concert
One of Pittsburgh’s favorite sons is returning home for one night in June, and he’s bringing his friends.
The Pittsburgh CLO announced last week that legendary actor, musician and West Homestead native Jeff Goldblum will be at Downtown’s Benedum Center with his Mildred Snitzer Orchestra on June 1 for an evening of music, on-stage banter and audience interaction.
Tickets for Goldblum and company’s Benedum concert are available at pittsburghclo.culturaldistrict.org.
Goldblum last performed in Western Pennsylvania with the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra — which is named after a family friend from his childhood — in 2019 for two performances at the Carnegie Library Music Hall of Homestead in Munhall.
He and his orchestra have put out three jazz records, including last year’s “Plays Well With Others.”
The group’s June 1 concert will feature Goldblum on piano alongside guitarist John Storie, featured vocalist Tawanda, bassist Alex Frank, organist Joe Bagg, drummer Ryan Shaw and saxophonists James King and Scott Gilman.
In addition to indulging his jazzy side, Goldblum also recently starred in multiple Super Bowl commercials and will portray the Wizard of Oz in this fall’s “Wicked: Part One.”
In 2004, Goldblum took the Benedum Center stage as Harold Hill in a Pittsburgh CLO production of “The Music Man.” CLO executive producer Mark Fleischer pointed out in a press release that he’ll be back at the Benedum shortly before the CLO’s July 9-14 “Music Man” run.
Coincidentally, those shows will come on Pittsburgh’s officially designated Jeff Goldblum Day, which has been celebrated every July 13 since 2004.
“Very few have had the impact on the entertainment industry (film & television) as Jeff Goldblum,” Fleischer continued. “This is going to be a not-to-miss evening of jazz, and stories with one of Pittsburgh’s most entertaining neighbors in our very own neighborhood!”
