Royals’ Perez hits walk-off single in 10th

Kansas City wins 5th consecutiv­e game as Astros strand 13 in a loss

Salvador Perez hit a gameending single in the 10th inning, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Houston Astros, 4-3, on Tuesday night for their fifth consecutiv­e victory.

Garrett Hampson began the Kansas City 10th on second as the automatic runner, replacing Pasquantin­o. Hampson raced home when Perez led off the inning with a single to center against Wander Suero (0-1).

James McArthur ( 1- 0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

Perez and Nelson Velázquez each had two hits for the Royals. Bobby Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia each drove in a run.

Yordan Alvarez had four hits and two RBIs for Houston. Jeremy Peña had two hits and scored a run. The Astros loaded the bases with Vthreeinni­estraight singles to start the first inning, but Cole Ragans limited the damage to a run- scoring fielder’s choice for Yainer Diaz. Alvarez singled in Peña with two out in the second, and then doubled home Mauricio Dubón in the fourth.

Houston went 5 for 18 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base.

Sonny Gray tossed five innings in his St. Louis debut, and the host Cardinals shut out Philadelph­ia.

Brewers 9, Reds 5: Christian Yelich and Blake Perkins each drove in three runs, helping Joe Ross and Milwaukee beat host Cincinnati.

White Sox 7, Guardians 5: Dominic Fletcher hit a two-run double in the eighth inning as Chicago snapped a five-game losing streak with its first road win of the season, a win against Cleveland.

Braves 6, Mets 5: Ronald Acuña Jr. scored three runs and stole three bases, Reynaldo López threw six scoreless innings in his first home start for Atlanta, and the Braves held off New York.

Orioles 7, Red Sox 1: Colton Cowser drove in four runs, Corbin Burnes allowed two hits over seven innings and visiting Baltimore beat the Red Sox in Boston’s home opener. Burnes (2-0) struck out six and walked two, giving up Tyler O’Neill’s sixth homer of the season in the first inning. O’Neill began the season by homering for his fifth straight opening day, a major league record.

Dodgers 6, Twins 3: Tyler Glasnow tied his career high with 14 strikeouts in seven scoreless innings, and Los Angeles beat host Minnesota. James Outman and Will Smith each hit a three-run homer for Los Angeles. Plum’s Alex Kirilloff homered for Minnesota after Glasnow departed.

Yankees 3, Marlins 2: Carlos Rodón allowed two unearned run in six-plus innings, Alex Verdugo homered and host New York beat Miami to match its best 12-game start. New York improved to a major league-best 10-2.

Blue Jays 5, Mariners 3: Bo Bichette hit a two-run homer, Chris Bassitt pitched 6 2/3 effective innings to win for the first time in three starts this season and host Toronto beat Seattle.

Athletics 4, Rangers 3: Shea Langeliers hit three home runs, including a tworun drive in the ninth inning that lifted Oakland past host Texas.

Notes

Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías has been charged with five misdemeano­rs stemming from his his arrest last September on suspicion of domestic violence, authoritie­s said.

Urias, 27, faces charges including one count of spousal battery, two counts of domestic battery involving a dating relationsh­ip, one count of false imprisonme­nt and one count of assault, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office. Arraignmen­t is scheduled for May 2.
