‘Some Like It Hot,’ ‘Hamilton,’ ‘Life of Pi’ highlight Cultural Trust series
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is kicking off its next season of touring Broadway shows with a (click) boom. The Downtown- based nonprofit announced on Monday the 10show lineup for its 2024-25 PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh series. The season begins in September with the latest national tour of “Hamilton,” which will take over Downtown’s Benedum Center for more than two weeks.
While tickets for individual Broadway series shows and season specials will go on sale throughout 2024, subscriptions for the main eight-show season are currently available for $320-$1,040 at trustarts.org.
Here’s what’s coming to the Benedum from September 2024 through May 2025:
“Hamilton” (Sept. 11-29, 2024):
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s blockbuster musical based on the life of America’s first treasury secretary is returning to the Benedum for the first time since 2022.
“& Juliet” (Oct. 29-Nov. 3, 2024):
This “Romeo and Juliet”-inspired musical employs contemporary pop tunes from artists like Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Kelly Clarkson for its version of what might have happened if Juliet had lived beyond William Shakespeare’s original tragic ending.
“MJ” (Nov. 19-Dec. 1, 2024): The 1992 Dangerous World Tour is used as a framing device and excuse to explore Michael Jackson’s long and celebrated musical oeuvre.
“Funny Girl” (Jan. 7-12, 2025):
This touring version of the classic musical inspired by the life and career of comedian and actor Fanny Brice is based on the 2022 Broadway revival starring Beanie Feldstein (and later Lea Michele) in the lead role.
“Life of Pi” (Jan. 28-Feb. 2, 2025):
The Olivier Award-winning play based on Yann Martel’s famed novel of the
same name employs puppetry to create the animals accompanying the show’s titular figure on his fantastical journey.
“Kimberly Akimbo” (March 4-9, 2025): Last year’s best musical Tony Award-winner follows a suburban teenager’s efforts to navigate family drama, first crushes and more.
“Peter Pan” (April 16, 2025): The Darling siblings find their way to Neverland and Peter Pan still has no desire to ever grow up in this musical adaptation of the beloved fairytale.
“Some Like It Hot” (April 15-20, 2025): Two Prohibition-era musicians go on the run after inadvertently witnessing a mob hit in this reimagined take on the 1959 Marilyn Monroe-starring comedy.
There are also two season specials: “Stomp” (Oct. 18-19, 2024): The show that uses everything from garbage cans to hubcaps for its percussionheavy pandemonium will be back in action this fall.
“Come From Away” (May 2-4, 2025): A small Canadian town takes in thousands of folks who ended up there due to most airspaces closing on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Cultural Trust’s 2023-24 Broadway series is currently wrapping up with “Company” from Tuesday through April 21 and “The Kite Runner” from May 7-12.
