Poetry Society of America

Susan Howe of Guilford, Connecticut, won the 2017 Frost Medal. Howe, whose most recent poetry collection is Debths (New Directions, 2017), received $5,000. The annual award is given by the Poetry Society of America Board of Governors to recognize “distinguished lifetime achievement in American poetry.” There is no application process.

ROBERT H. WINNER MEMORIAL AWARD

Heather Altfeld of Chico, California, won the 2017 Robert H. Winner Memorial Award for a group of poems. She received $2,500. Fred Marchant judged. The annual award is given to a midcareer poet over 40 who has published no more than one book. The next deadline is December 22.
