DESERT WRITERS AWARD
Michael Branch of Reno, Nevada, won the 2017 Ellen Meloy Fund Desert Writers Award. He received $5,000 to work on his creative nonfiction manuscript “Jackalope! The Complete Natural and Cultural History.” Established to honor the memory of Ellen Meloy, the annual award provides support to creative nonfiction writers “whose work reflects the spirit and passion for the desert embodied in Meloy’s writing” to spend time in a desert environment. The next deadline is January 15, 2018.
