Lynne Thompson of Los Angeles won the poetry award for “Genesis and Other Poems.” Dana Levin judged. Carrie Bindschadl­er of Oxford, Ohio, won the fiction award for her short story “Tortoise.” Mark Beauregard judged. Lee Anne Gallaway-Mitchell of Tucson won the nonfiction award for her essay “Good Lands of Mercy.” Donna Steiner judged. The winners each received $1,000 and were invited to attend the ninth annual Tucson Festival of Books in March 2018. The annual awards are given for a group of five poems, a short story, an essay, or an excerpt from a novel or memoir.
