Under the Volcano Master Classes and Residency
The 15th annual Under the Volcano Master Classes and Residency will be held from January 11, 2018, to January 21, 2018, in Tepoztlán, Mexico, a traditional village located in the foothills of volcanoes approximately one hour from Mexico City. The conference features daily workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings, manuscript consultations, excursions, time to write, and an optional residency extension. The faculty includes poet Paul Muldoon; fiction writers Magda Bogin, Taiye Selasi, and Luisa Valenzuela; and nonfiction writers Reyna Grande, Jonathan Levi, Ginger Thompson, and Alison Wearing. Guest authors include fiction writers Sandra Cisneros and Jennifer Clement. Tuition is $1,895, which includes most meals. Housing is available for $30 to $250 per night. Submit a writing sample of 8 to 10 pages and a cover letter. There is no application fee. Admissions are made on a rolling basis. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
