Catamaran Writing Conference
The 2020 Catamaran Writing Conference will be held from July 26 to July 30 at the Robert Louis Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California. The conference features workshops, craft talks, readings, and literary-themed excursions for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. The faculty includes poets Susan Browne and Joseph Millar, fiction writers Lisa Fugard and Josip
Novakovich, creative nonfiction writers Charles Hood and Dan White, and poet and nonfiction writer Joan Rose Staffen. Fiction writer Jane Smiley will give a guest reading. The cost of the conference, which includes tuition, shared lodging on campus, and all meals, is $1,350; commuter tuition, which includes all meals, is $950. Registration is first come, first served. Workshops are limited to 10 participants each; the conference will be limited to 50 participants this year to accommodate social distancing. Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference
The Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference will be virtually held from August 7 to August 10 using the online meeting platform Zoom. The conference features evaluation and discussion of book-length and chapbook-length poetry manuscripts with poets, editors, and publishers. The faculty includes poet Joan Houlihan and poets and editors Ellen Doré Watson (Massachusetts Review), Rusty Morrison (Omnidawn Publishing) and Hilda Raz
(University of New Mexico Press). The cost of the session is $1,000. Using only the online application system, submit three to four poems and a brief biography. There is no application fee. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Visit the website for an application and complete guidelines.

Edith Wharton Writer-inResidence Program
Two- or three-week residencies during the month of March are offered to three women poets, fiction writers, or creative nonfiction writers at the Mount, Edith Wharton’s former home in Lenox, Massachusetts. The residents will be provided with a $1,000 stipend; dedicated private work space at the Mount, a Georgian revival mansion built in 1902; and lodging at a nearby residence with private bedrooms and bathrooms as well as shared communal space. Residents are expected to be available for local media requests and will participate in a public panel discussion with fellow residents during their stay. To apply for a residency in 2021, submit a writing sample of up to 20 pages, a curriculum vitae, and a statement of purpose with a $25 application fee by September 7. Hambidge Creative Residency Program
Hambidge offers residencies of two weeks to two months year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers on 600 wooded acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northern Georgia. Residents are provided with a private cottage that includes a bedroom, studio space, kitchen, and bathroom.
The cost of the residency is $250 per week, which includes some meals. Several scholarships are available. For residencies from mid-February 2021 through April 2021, using only the online application system submit six to eight poems or up to 15 pages of prose, a 300-word biography, a one-page project description, and a résumé with a $30 application fee by September 15. Jentel Artist Residency Program
The Jentel Artist Residency Program offers four-week residencies from midJanuary to mid-May to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers on a cattle ranch in the Lower Piney Creek Valley, 20 miles east of Sheridan, Wyoming. Each residency includes a private room, separate work space, access to a common living area, and a $400 stipend. Residents are responsible for their own food and travel. U.S. citizens or international writers currently residing in the United States who are over 25 years old and not currently enrolled as students are eligible. For residencies from January 15, 2021, to May 13, 2021, using only the online application system submit up to 10 pages of poetry or up to 20 pages of prose and contact information for three references with a $30 application fee by September 15. Kentucky Women Writers Conference
The 2020 Kentucky Women Writers Conference will be held from September 17 to September 20 at the Carnegie Center in Lexington, Kentucky. The conference features workshops and craft talks in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. The faculty includes poets Mahogany L. Browne and Evie Shockley; fiction writers Jami Attenberg, Amy Hempel, Mariama J. Lockington, and Roxana Robinson; nonfiction writers Bridgett M. Davis and Darcey Steinke; and nonfiction writer and literary agent Erin Hosier. The cost of the conference is $125; the cost for students is
$30. Workshops are available for an additional $100. Manuscript consultations with literary agent Erin Hosier (Dunow, Carlson & Lerner) are available for an additional $45. Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts
Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, located in the Missouri River town of Nebraska City, Nebraska, offers residencies of two to eight weeks year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. Residents are provided with housing, studio space, and a $100 weekly stipend. For residencies from January 4, 2021, to June 18, 2021, using only the online application system submit up to 10 poems totaling no more than 30 pages, up to two stories or novel chapters totaling no more than 7,500 words, or two essays or chapters of a work of creative nonfiction totaling no more than 7,500 words, along with a statement of purpose, contact information for two references, and a curriculum vitae with a $35 application fee by September 1. Poets on the Coast: A Weekend Retreat for Women
The 2020 Poets on the Coast: A Weekend Writing Retreat for Women will be held from September 11 to September 13 at the Hallmark Inn in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The retreat features a poetry workshop, craft classes, and one-on-one mentoring with faculty. The faculty includes Kelli Russell Agodon, Laura Da’, and Susan Rich. Tuition, which does not include lodging or meals, is $495 until June 30 and $519 thereafter. Lodging is available at the retreat hotel for $139 to $199 per night. Renaissance House Residency Program
The Renaissance House Residency Program, sponsored by the Helene and Dorothy West Foundation for Artists in Need, offers residencies of one to two weeks from July to September to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. The residencies include workshops, lectures, and time to write. Participating writers include poet Michael Afaa Weaver, fiction writers Elizabeth Benedict and Kate Feiffer, and nonfiction writers Nancy Aronie, Jessica Harris, Susan Klein, Jill Nelson, and Stanley Nelson. The cost of the residency, which includes workshops, lodging, and all meals, is $950 for private lodging and $625 for shared lodging. Submit an application with a work sample of any length. Writers at the Eyrie
A residency of two weeks or one month in November is offered to a poet, a fiction writer, or a nonfiction writer at a private apartment in Brooklyn, New York. The resident is provided with some meals. Writers over the age of 24 who are not residents of New York City are eligible. Submit via postal mail a writing sample of 7 to 10 poems or one to two stories or essays of up to 30 pages, a project description, a brief bio, and a résumé with a $10 application fee by August 30.
