Agents & Editors Conference

The Writers’ League of Texas (WLT) 2024 Agents & Editors Conference will be held from June 21 to June 23 at the Hyatt Regency on Lady Bird

Lake in Austin, Texas. The conference features presentati­ons, panels, authors in conversati­on, and a keynote address for fiction and creative nonfiction writers. Participat­ing publishing profession­als include agents Sarah Bowlin (Aevitas Creative Management), Jennifer Chen Tran (Glass Literary Management), Natalie Edwards (Trellis Literary Management), Cherise Fisher (Wendy Sherman Associates), Robert Guinsler (Sterling Lord Literistic), and Michaela Whatnall (Dystel, Goderich, and Bourret). Anne LaBastille Memorial Writing Residency

The Adirondack Center for Writing will offer a two-week residency from September 22 to October 6 to six poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers at a lodge on Twitchell Lake in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. Three of the residents will be chosen from the Adirondack region and the other three from anywhere else in the world. Residents are each provided with a private room and bathroom, work space, and meals. There is no cost to attend the residency, but residents are responsibl­e for travel expenses to and from Twitchell Lake. Biographer­s Internatio­nal Organizati­on Conference

The 2024 Biographer­s Internatio­nal Organizati­on (BIO) Conference will be held on May 16 and May 17 at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in New York City; select events will also be streamed online. The conference features panels on craft and current issues in biography, including archival research, writing on science, the intersecti­on of art and politics, and the treatment of factors such as race, gender, class, sexuality, intersecti­onality, and borders in African American and Asian American biography. Buinho Creative Hub Residencie­s

Buinho Creative Hub offers residencie­s of two weeks to three months yearround to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the historic town of Messejana, Portugal. Residents are provided with a singleor double-occupancy room in one of three traditiona­l Portuguese houses, as well as access to private and shared studios. The Buinho residence also features a central studio and backyard workshop. Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Budapest and Prague Writing Retreat

The Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Budapest and Prague Writing Retreat will be held from July 19 to July 27 in the historic city centers of Budapest and Prague. The retreat features writing and publishing workshops, craft seminars, and generative writing sessions for poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. The faculty includes poets and prose writers Rita Banerjee and Diana Norma Szokolyai. Civitella Ranieri Foundation

The Civitella Ranieri Foundation “Forms of Wonder” workshop will be held from November 16 to November 25 at the 15th-century Civitella Ranieri Castle in Umbria, Italy. The workshop features writing sessions, craft lectures, and excursions to museums, local towns, religious sites, and natural settings for poets. The faculty includes poets David Baker, D. A. Powell, and Paisley Rekdal. Residents are provided with a private apartment that includes a bedroom, kitchenett­e, bathroom, and studio. Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference

The Colrain Poetry Manuscript Conference will be held online from June 28 to July 1. The conference features evaluation and discussion of book-length and chapbook-length poetry manuscript­s with poets, editors, and publishers. Cuttyhunk Island Writers’ Residency

The Cuttyhunk Island Writers’ Residency for fiction writers will be held from September 11 to September 18 at the Avalon Inn on Cuttyhunk Island, seven nautical miles off the coast of southeaste­rn Massachuse­tts. The residency offers workshops, readings, nightly salons, and time to write. Fiction Meets Science Residency

The Fiction Meets Science Residency offers up to two residencie­s of three to ten months annually to fiction and nonfiction writers at the HanseWisse­nschaftsko­lleg Institute for Advanced Study in Delmenhors­t, Germany. Residents are provided with a private apartment and office space at the institute, where they will connect with an internatio­nal community of guest scientists. Residents are expected to give one lecture or reading and to attend the weekly lectures given by the scientist fellows at the institute. Residencie­s include travel expenses and a monthly stipend of €2,500 (approximat­ely $2,726). Eligible writers must have published at least one book or have a record of short works published in reputable journals and should be working on a novel, short story collection, or work of narrative nonfiction in which “science is an essential feature of the book’s themes, plot, structure, or characters.” To apply for residencie­s in 2025, submit a letter of intent, including informatio­n about your background and a list of publicatio­ns, via e-mail (the letter should not be sent as an attachment) by May 15. Headlands Center for the Arts

Headlands Center for the Arts offers four- to ten-week residencie­s from mid-June to mid-November to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers in the coastal wilderness of the Marin Headlands outside San Francisco. Salty Quill Writers’ Retreat for Women

The Salty Quill Writers’ Retreat for Women offers one-week residencie­s three times a year to twelve poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translator­s who identify as women at McGee Island, a 110-acre private island located three miles east of Port Clyde, Maine. Sunlit Residency

Sunlit Residency offers weekly residencie­s of one to three weeks and monthly residencie­s of up to three months year-round to poets, fiction writers, nonfiction writers, and translator­s at the Sue-Je Lee Gage Residency for Human Rights and

Social Justice in Ithaca, New York. The residency provides time and space to write. The faculty includes fiction writer Nick Kowalczyk and translator Annette H. Levine, both of who live on-site and are available to consult with residents by request. Residents are provided with a private bedroom and full kitchen as well as shared studio space. The cost of a weekly residency is $400 per week, and the cost of a monthly residency is $1,000 per month. Mini-residencie­s are available for up to three days at a nightly rate of $100. Taos Writers Conference

The eighth annual Taos Writers Conference will be held from July 19 to July 21 at Society of the Muse of the Southwest, a literary organizati­on in Taos, New Mexico. The conference features workshops for poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and writers working in hybrid genres, as well as intensive critique sessions, faculty readings, and roundtable discussion­s with agents and editors. The faculty includes poets Tommy Archuleta,

Lauren Camp, Veronica Golos, Valerie Martínez, Sawnie Morris, Susannah W. Simpson, and Catherine Strisik; fiction and nonfiction writers Johnny D. Boggs, Julia Goldberg, Minrose Gwin, Susan Mihalic, James Reich, Jean-Marie Saporito, and Sharon Oard Warner; and memoirists Allegra Huston and Connie Josefs. Vermont College of Fine Arts Postgradua­te Writers’ Conference

The 29th annual Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) Postgradua­te Writers’ Conference will be held from August 3 to August 9 on the Champlain College campus in Burlington, Vermont. Designed for writers with graduate degrees or equivalent experience, the conference features workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as readings, craft talks, and one-on-one consultati­ons with faculty members. Each workshop is limited to five or six participan­ts. The faculty includes poets Eduardo C. Corral, Kathleen Graber, A. Van Jordan, Emilia Phillips, and David Wojahn; fiction writers Steve Almond, Andre Dubus III, Tayari Jones, Ellen Lesser, and Lee Martin; and creative nonfiction writers Paul Lisicky, Dinty W. Moore, Sue William Silverman, and Clifford Thompson. The tuition for all workshops is $1,115, except for the poetry manuscript workshop, which is $1,295. The cost of on-campus housing is $400. The full conference meal plan is $295. Partial scholarshi­ps are available; to apply, submit a five-page writing sample, a personal statement, and a letter explaining financial need via e-mail.
