Vermont Studio Center
The Vermont Studio Center (VSC) offers two-, three-, and four-week residencies year-round to poets, fiction writers, creative nonfiction writers, and translators in Johnson, Vermont, a village in the northern Green Mountains. VSC provides time and space to write, as well as readings, craft talks, and one-on-one consultations with invited visiting writers. Residents are provided with a private room, a private or shared bathroom, and access to a shared kitchen and communal spaces. The residency fee, which includes lodging, private studio space, and all meals, is $2,700 for two weeks, $3,825 for three weeks, and $4,950 for four weeks. Full and partial fellowships are available. To apply, submit up to eight pages of poetry or 10 pages of prose (writing samples in translation should be accompanied by the original text) with a $25 application fee by June 15. Virginia Center for the Creative Arts
The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts offers residencies of varying lengths (up to six weeks) year-round to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers at Mt. San Angelo in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Residents are provided with private lodging and studio space, meals, and access to the facilities of nearby Sweet Briar College. The residency fee is $75 a day; full fellowships and need-based financial aid are available. To apply for residencies from January through April 2025, submit a writing sample of up to 25 pages of poetry or prose (consisting of 6 to 10 poems, up to two short stories or essays, or an excerpt from a longer work of prose) and a project description with a $30 application fee by May 15.
