Mary Faggart

1917-2016

Mary May Faggart of Porterville passed away peacefully in her home on January 31, 2016, at the age of 99 years. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Chris L. Crow, Mildred Wood Crow, and her husband Earnest "Bud" Miller Faggart. Mary was born on January 11, 1917 in Terra Bella and was raised on the family wheat ranch. She was the eldest of six children. She attended Terra Bella Elementary and Porterville High School. She then earned a business degree from Sawyer's Business College in Los Angeles. Mary married Bud Faggart in 1938. They later established Faggart Buick/gmc car dealership, which the couple owned and operated until son Ted Faggart took over after Bud's death in 1998. Mary worked in the dealership office until she was well into her 80's. Mary is survived by her five siblings: Barbara "Bobbie" Baker, Lorraine Stephen, Betty Lane, Eleanor Rutherfurd, and Lyle Crow. She left behind one son, Edwin "Ted" Faggart and wife Barbara, and grandchildren Jeffery Edwin Faggart, Jarrett Allen Faggart, Cathy May Faggart Albertson, and husband Kent Albertson, as well as 4 great grandchildren: Clay and Michael Albertson, Kyle Faggart and Jarrett Randell Faggart. Mary was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother as well as a caring and thoughtful friend. She always had kind words, praise, and encouragement to offer others. Mary's strong Christian faith gave her the ability to find something positive in any situation, and to always uplift those in her presence. Mary had a love for music and was a lovely singer and an accomplished pianist and organist. Mary was an active member of The First Congregational Church in Porterville. A viewing will be held on Monday, February 8 at Myers Funeral Home in Porterville from 10:0011:00 am. A memorial service will follow in Myers Chapel at 11:00 am on Monday, February 8.
