Richard August Stromberg
On April 26, 2017 Richard August Stromberg passed away peacefully with family by his side, Richard was born to Hjalmar and Esther on August 10, 1936. He grew up in Lancaster, CA where he made several lifelong friends.
Richard graduated from college in 1959 with a degree in electrical engineering. He then served as an officer in the U.S. Navy where he completed a tour in Vietnam. Following the Navy he worked at North American Aviation in Downey, then decided to follow in the footsteps of his parents and become a teacher. He received his teaching credential from CSU Long Beach. He began his teaching career at the Fashion Institution of Design in Los Angeles. Richard then relocated to Porterville and taught math at Porterville High School for more than 30 years. He was a wellrespected teacher and a favorite of both students and staff. Although he was recognized for his outstanding teaching with the Mentor Teacher Award, his best memories were made in the classroom teaching his students. He especially enjoyed catching up with former students and learning of their accomplishments.
Richard enjoyed backpacking in his younger years and later caring for his horses and dogs on his ranch. He enjoyed music, fine wine and was an avid reader. He was a true gentleman. Richard is survived by his wife, Roni; his daughter, Denise; son-in-law, Frank; two grandchildren and many wonderful friends.
A Visitation/open House will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Myers Chapel (reception hall), former students are welcome to attend. Interment to be private.
