Main Street car show Saturday
The eighth annual Parish Pride Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday on Main Street in Porterville.
Classic cars, trucks and bikes, as well as food and entertainment, will be featured.
Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and the Porterville Chamber of Commerce, the show is expected to attract about 300 vehicles.
A number of streets and parking lots will be closed for the event, including Main Street, from Morton Avenue to Olive Avenue, Harrison Avenue, Thurman Avenue, Cleveland Avenue, Putnam Avenue, Mill Avenue, Oak Avenue, from Division Street to the alley east of Main Street, and Garden Avenue, from Main Street to the alley east of Main Street.
The parking lots of the former J.C. Penney and Allen’s Boot and Saddle will also be closed, as well as the sidewalk on Main Street, from Morton Avenue to Olive Avenue. Centennial Park will also be closed for the event.
Jorge Fernandez, the treasurer for the local Knights of Columbus organization, said there will be at least 10 food vendors and 10 booths, including arts and crafts and information booths. Fernandez said there will also be a kid’s zone that will feature a variety of different activities such as a bounce house.
Fernandez said there will be about four disc jockeys up and down Main Street providing music and making announcements.
Fernandez said vehicle registration costs are $30 for cars and $25 for both bicycles and motorcycles. He said those interested in registering can do so on the day of the event after 7 a.m. at Centennial Park.
He said entries will be judged throughout the day and noted that an awards ceremony will start at around 3 p.m. He said there will be cash prizes of $500 for best of show, $250 for best paint, $250 for best engine and $100 for best bike.
