Cath Lab open house Tuesday
For too long residents of the South Valley have gone without and waited for the technology and services required to comprehensively diagnose cardiovascular diseases. On Tuesday, the community will be able to celebrate the latest in heart care in Porterville when Sierra View Medical Center will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony from 4-7 p.m.
The new Cath Lab is located at the hospital, just north of the main entrance, but you enter by going through the main entrance.
Catheterization is a procedure to determine how well the heart of a patient is working. During the procedure, physicians and nurses are able to measure aspects of the heart’s performance such as pressure and blood flow. Among the numerous advantages to having cardiac catheterization available in Porterville, x-rays can also be taken to see exactly where arteries may be clogged.
The procedure is done by inserting a thin tube, also called a catheter, into a large blood vessel that is connected to the heart. Physicians are then able to use special imaging technology to check arteries and blood flow to and from the heart. Cardiac catheterization is considered a safe and non-invasive procedure in place of surgery.
The lab began seeing patients in April.
All are welcome to attend the open house and see the new facility coming to the South Valley this year. If interested in attending, RSVP by calling Sierra View Medical Center Marketing at 788-6124.
