MHS wrestling receives $10K

RM Parks, Shell Oil make donation

-

Monache High School’s wrestling program was presented with a $10,000 check from RM Parks and the Shell Oil Company on Tuesday in their wrestling room.

RM Parks, a local wholesale distributor of gasoline and diesel fuel, and Shell had been working on getting the Marauders some funding since as early as last winter.

“With the program always being short of funds, like most of the programs in this school district; and everything being fundraised, we really wanted to come through for the kids and figure out how to do it and we came up with the solution,” said Jason Callison, the general sales manager at RM Parks. Callison also has a son, Jared, on the team.

Working with Shell’s sales representative, Lydell Lauro, the two companies were able to get the money together from one of Shell’s program that collects $1,000 fines and puts that money back into the community.

“The funds come from a program [where] Shell collects fines for any Shell gas station around the country, and there’s 14,000 of them, that sell anything to do with drugs or drug paraphernalia,” said Lydell. “We take that fine money and donate it to different causes throughout the year.”

Since the Marauders travel nearly every weekend to tournaments throughout California during the season, the donation is guaranteed to be a big help to Monache’s wrestling program.

“It took a little while but it’s so beneficial to our wrestling program,” said MHS head coach Arthur Demrath. “We already sent money down from camps. We’re going to buy some singlets with it obviously. We’re going to buy some equipment and it definitely pays for next year for traveling and hotel expenses. It helps the community, also it helps our younger program. We’re going to try and do some stuff with those kids as well.”
