Patriotic summer concert Thursday
A special patriotic Summer “Pops Goes The Strings” concert will be presented by the Porterville Community Strings on Thursday evening.
The program will start at 7 p.m. and will be held at the music room CA-2 at Porterville College.
The program will feature live music presented by the Community Strings, an organization of local musicians who enjoy playing the violin, viola, cello and string bass. As an allvolunteer group, they have appeared at numerous community and civic functions, and will soon celebrate 10 years as part of the Porterville musical community.
The audience will recognize many of the melodies to be featured in this concert, including the “Try To Remember” tune from the Fantastics as well as symphonic melodies and waltzes. Folk tunes include the “Spanish Medley” and “Fiesta Mexicana,” together with the American show melodies of George Cohen and Irving Berlin.
In addition to the stirring symphonic march “American Patrol,” the program will also present a “Tribute To The Armed Forces.”
The Porterville community is invited to attend for a night of live musical entertainment at no admission charge.
