Porterville College blast from the past
As part of Porterville College’s 90th anniversary celebration, the college is collecting as much memorabilia as they can to add to their soon to be released yearbook to help commemorate the memories for its 90th year celebration.
They have been urging everybody who attended or has family and friends that attended throughout the years to submit photos and stories to make it onto the yearbook. PC has already collected a vast collection of amazing photos and stories by past Porterville alumni.
Among those collected, are stories of veteran soldiers like Alyward James Johnson who served in the Korean war, and then came back from war to attend PC. He graduated in 1950, went on to attend Fresno State College, not yet California State University, Fresno, and then came back to Porterville to teach for 30 years.
Porterville Mayor Milt Stowe also attended PC from 1970 to 1971 and served as student body representative, and vice president.
Long-time Porterville resident Guido Anthony Lombardi will also make an appearance in the yearbook. He graduated from Porterville High School in 1939 and then attended Porterville Junior College, which was then on the same campus, graduating in 1942.
The college has not had a yearbook come out for a decade, and they hope to really bring back as much of the college’s past as they can to celebrate 90 years.
They will re-scan the photos from each individual yearbook they have had in the past, collect photos and stories from staff, students, and past PC graduates.
The book will be $15 and come out September 30 for anybody that would like to purchase it. They invite anybody who may have photos to submit them to their website, although they don’t guarantee that every photo will make the cut, but they are trying to collect as many as they can and urge everybody to participate. The opportunity to place an ad will also be available and can be done on their website as well. The ads run from a full page ad for $100, a half page ad will run for $50, and a quarter page will run for $25.
The book will be 8.5-by-11 inch, printed in color and hardback.
