Tweets are undermining president

-

We can understand President Donald Trump’s love of Twitter. He believes, and is partly correct, it is his use of Twitter which propelled him to the presidency. Still, he needs to get control of his Twitter addiction. It is undermining his presidency.

His retweeting of an old WWE broadcast which was edited by another person to show then private citizen Trump beating up a man with a CNN logo on his face at a wrestling event where someone superimposed the CNN logo on the head of the victim. That was extremely wrong, even if he didn’t create the video.

The president has abused and misused Twitter far too much to the point that even his supporters are doubting him. Using Twitter sparingly and only to condone an act of violence or praise something that is positive, is about as far as any president should use Twitter or any form of social media. President Obama used Twitter sparingly and correctly.

Now, Trump is not a politician and rarely acts like one. He is not afraid to put something out there that most politicians would be deathly afraid to do for the harm it might cause them. But, much of what President Trump has been using Twitter for is wrong, distasteful and frankly, unbecoming of the President of the United States.

While there are many in this country who agree with the president’s appraisal of the national media, many of those folks would not go to such measures to show that displeasure. The national media has its own problems and while we do not always see eye-toeye with much of what the national media puts out there, we are not going to stoop to the lows President Trump has used.

If Trump wants to earn the respect of the media and from a majority of people in this nation, then he needs to act presidential. That means holding his tongue, or in today’s world, keeping his fingers off of Twitter. He needs to refrain from outright nasty criticisms of those with whom he disagrees and instead make his case for what he believes.

We urge the president to find peace with Twitter and grab his hands — instead of biting his tongue — the next time that he begins to send out a nasty, distasteful tweet about some person or entity. That would be presidential.
