Council to discuss sudden ‘white water’ in city homes

Camarena said there is too much air in system

Mike Camarena will deliver an informational report at Lindsay’s council meeting Tuesday regarding why white water is coming out of residents’ faucets and what the city is doing to fix the problem.

Camarena, the director of the city’s building inspection and services department, said the reason for the white water is due to an abundance of air in the city’s water system, which he said is from one of the city’s well sources.

“With it being so hot for the last month and a half or so, we haven’t had a whole lot of time to take our wells offline and so we have one well site where the water level is dropping and it is creating some air that we are pumping into the system,” Camarena said.

He added that the city has received quite a few complaints in the last few weeks about the sudden change of color in their water and what the city is doing about it.

“We are taking the complaints we receive and we go out and we will flush some hydrants and try to remove a bunch of water from one end to another and try to evacuate the air that is in the system,” Camarena said, adding, “It is nothing too big, but it does create a little bit of a stir when you get a white-colored water coming out of your faucet.”

Camarena said the change in color is not harmful, and noted that if residents poured the water in a clear glass and let it sit for a few seconds, “you can watch all of the air bubbles go out of the top and the water becomes clear.” In other matters:
