Women (NFW), the first formal networking organization for women in Tulare County, is in search of new members and is inviting prospective members to a “Favorite Things” meeting luncheon at 11:30 a.m on Thursday, July 27. NFW hosts a monthly luncheon on the fourth Thursday of each month along with socials throughout the year, a book club, and other networking exercises. Members pay annual dues and monthly luncheon costs. The organization is overseen by a board made up of volunteers from the general membership. The 2017 board includes: Hollis Elliott Fernandez, Betsy Murphy, Sue Mccallister, Beth Bruegman, Karin Bennett, Chelsea Herman, Jennifer Reynolds, Natalie Mata, Jessica Cavale and Laura Florezmccusker. The cost for NFW’S monthly luncheon is $30 and will take place at The Vintage Press, 216 N. Willis St., Visalia. dive-in Theatre will be playing at the Porterville City Pool this summer. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the movies begin at dusk on Fridays, July 28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 12. Organizers suggest bringing a float and viewing the movie from in the pool. Admission costs $3 for adults and $2 for children ages 12 and under. The concession stand will be open during the movie, but guests can also bring their own snacks.

the First Southern Baptist Church of Porterville at 1641 W. Henderson Ave. is holding Vacation Bible

School titled Camp Out/ Jesus is the Light. There will be upbeat music, projects with a purpose, wilderness games and childrens videos. Vacation Bible School will start Friday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and Sunday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon with lunch to follow. has started for the 2017 season, and will continue through the fall. The market is held each Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Lindsay. It features food, vendors and other activities.

the inaugural Boots, Brews and Bacon Festival at the Visalia

Convention Center will take place on Saturday, July 29. The Boots, Brews and Bacon Festival is a beer tasting festival designed to build the appreciation of craft brew all while listening to live music and enjoying what else, bacon. The festival will take place indoors in the air conditioned building from

6 to 10 p.m. (VIP at 5:30 p.m.) on July 29 and will feature craft beers, both from local distributors and breweries and local restaurants providing samples that have bacon front and center. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 day of event, groups of 10 or more $25, and $75 VIP (only 100 VIP are available). This is a 21 and older only event, proof of age will be required at the door. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 5. Tickets can be purchased at the Visalia Convention Center Box Office, Monday through Friday, or online at www. visaliatix.com.

tthe Tule River Tribe Council along with Tulare County Step Up will be holding a

resource fair to prepare Tule River Tribal Youth for school. The event will be held at the Tule River Gym on Saturday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first 300 to arrive will receive backpacks and school supplies. Throughout the event, activities like a scavenger hunt, and cultural demonstrations will take place. Information and resource booths will also be set up inside the gym. The youth are encouraged to participate in the resource scavenger hunt to learn more about each informational booth set up at the event. after a successful year of improved parent involvement at Woodville Elementary

School, they will be hosting a friendly summer celebration for parents and students on Sunday, July 30. The event will consist of several friendly fun activities, among them a barbecue, video presentation, games for all ages, and music to dance. The school will also be having lessons in demonstration called “Numbers Talk,” guided reading, and English Learner Advisory Committee. the Tule River Historical Museum is open to the public from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays with no admission charge. The museum houses a collection of vintage lumber mill and farm equipment. Antiques from local families are on display in the 1860 Murphy House and in the main museum. Picture Show” at the Lindsay Museum and Gallery. The exhibit opens on Sunday, July 30, 2017 with a reception from 2-4 p.m. The exhibit will

Portervile. The popular makrket will be open Tuesdays from 8 to 11:30 a.m. through August along Main Street near City Hall. Shoppers can expect 24-30 booths selling fresh produce and other commodities, plus information booths set up by area agencies and organizations. Admission is free. staff mobile office in Porterville on Friday, July 7. The mobile office will be held in the Centennial Plaza Conference Room across the street from Porterville City Hall from 10-11 a.m. A staff member from Mccarthy’s office hosts each mobile office held throughout California’s 23rd Congressional District. This time provides an opportunity for constituents in the local community to conveniently visit and share concerns on important issues, current events and discuss casework matters regarding problems with federal government agencies. porterville Art Walk is held the first Friday of each month in downtown Porterville. Ten or more venues including galleries, studios and businesses will open their art exhibitions from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participants can meet the artists, listen to musicians and poets, and enjoy receptions and beverages. The gallery is located at 151 North Main Street; everyone is welcome and admission is free.

AUG. 5-6

the Upper Tule Association will hold its 32nd annual Mountain Festival at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5-6 at Camp Nelson Meadow. The two-day festival will feature entertainment for the entire family.

Admission is free. There will be games to play for the kids, including a children’s bounce house and arts and crafts. The Camp Nelson Volunteer Fire Department and the Camp Nelson Ambulance Association will have their equipment on display. Forest Service log sawing and Smokey Bear will be there also. There will be single and doubles horseshoe tournaments and volleyball both days. Live music will accompany the two-day activity event, and noted that a top block barbecue will be served from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Jerry Hall and Trick Shot will provide Saturday’s entertainment from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Fire on the Mountain will play from 3 to 7 p.m. Fire on the Mountain will also play from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

river Island Country Club is asking classic vehicle owners to bring their car, truck, or motorcycle to its Hot August Nights

Show and Shine on Saturday, Aug. 5. Gates will open for vehicles at 5 p.m. and for spectators 30 minutes later. Jeremy “Elvis” Pearce will be performing, and all fees include the 45 minute concert. Vehicle fee is $25 and includes

the Porterville Chamber of Commerce’s Auction and Dinner will be held on Friday, Aug. 18, at the Veterans Memorial Building. This year’s theme is Hot August Nights and guests are invited to dress casual or in theme attire. Doors open at 6 p.m. for networking, a no-host cocktail hour, and a silent auction featuring over 250 items up for bid. Items include get-away packages, jewelry, home décor, gift baskets, spa services, restaurant certificates and a multitude of other items. the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) encourages all Californians to give fishing a try for free on Sept. 2. CDFW annually offers two Free Fishing Days, typically around the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends. On these two days, people can fish without having to buy a sport fishing license. Free Fishing Days also provide an easy opportunity for

licensed anglers to introduce non-angling friends and children to fishing and the outdoors. All anglers should also check the rules and regulations at www.wildlife.ca.gov/ regulations for the waters they plan to fish because wildlife officers will be on duty to enforce them.
