dive-in Theatre will be playing at the Portervill­e City Pool this summer. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the movies begin at dusk on Fridays, July 28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 11. Organizers suggest bringing a float and viewing the movie from in the pool. Admission costs $3 for adults and $2 for children ages 12 and under. The concession stand will be open during the movie, but guests can also bring their own snacks. the First Southern Baptist Church of Portervill­e at 1641 W. Henderson Ave. is holding Vacation Bible School titled Camp Out/jesus is the Light. There will be upbeat music, projects with a purpose, wilderness games and childrens videos. Vacation Bible School will start Friday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and Sunday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon with lunch to follow. tthe inaugural Boots, Brews and Bacon Festival at the Visalia Convention Center will take place on Saturday, July 29. The Boots, Brews and Bacon Festival is a beer tasting festival designed to build the appreciati­on of craft brew all while listening to live music and enjoying what else, bacon. The festival will take place indoors in the air conditione­d building from 6 to 10 p.m. (VIP at 5:30 p.m.) on July 29 and will feature craft beers, both from local distributo­rs and breweries and local restaurant­s providing samples that have bacon front and center. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 day of event, groups of 10 or more $25, and $75 VIP (only 100 VIP are available). This is a 21 and older only event, proof of age will be required at the door. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 5. Tickets can be purchased at the Visalia Convention Center Box Office, Monday through Friday, or online at www.visaliatix.com.

The Tule River Tribe Council along with Tulare County Step Up will be holding a resource fair to prepare Tule River Tribal Youth for school. The event will be held at the Tule River Gym on Saturday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first 300 to arrive will receive backpacks and school supplies. Throughout the event, activities like a scavenger hunt, and cultural demonstrat­ions will take place. Informatio­n and resource booths will also be set up inside the gym. The youth are encouraged to participat­e in the resource scavenger hunt to learn more about each informatio­nal booth set up at the event. the Portervill­e Youth Center offers free recreation for youths after school. The center is open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located inside the Heritage Center at 256 E. Orange Avenue. The Youth Center offers a stimulatin­g environmen­t for youths ages10 to 18 and there are no registrati­on fees or monthly costs. The Youth Center’s game room features pool and pingpong tables, game consoles, foosball, board games and more. Members can also enjoy arts and crafts, organized sports and regular adventure trips. Access to the Margaret J. Slattery Children’s Library located inside the Heritage Center offers students a computer lab with Internet access. A quiet classroom is also available for homework assistance. Parents and children must be present when enrolling.
