White River Prospectors, the Porterville Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America, meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Gold Hills Clubhouse at 720 E. Members participate in gold panning, prospecting, metal detecting, outings and informative meetings. Teaching opportunities are also available. The Farmers Market at the Sierra View Medical Center has moved to downtown Portervile. The popular makrket will be open Tuesdays from 8 to 11:30 a.m. through August along Main Street. Shoppers can expect 2430 booths selling fresh produce and other commodities, plus information booths set up by area agencies and organizations. Admission is free.
