Porterville Recorder

Thanks community

-

Editor,

It has been my privilege to have been editor and publisher of The Porterville Recorder for the past four years.

Over the past several days many in the community have taken time to wish me well in my retirement which began Friday.

I want to especially thank the Porterville City Council and City Manager John Lollis for the nice plaque and send off they gave me last Tuesday night. It is difficult to hear nice things said about you, but it was certainly appreciated and I really enjoyed the comments by council members.

I want to thank all those who sent cards, called me, stopped by or left a voice mail or email congratulating me on my retirement.

Some have asked what the future is for The Recorder, the community’s only newspaper, and my response without hesitation is it will continue to exist. The Recorder has had editors and publishers come and go over its 109 years of existence and that will continue as well.

I have to give a big thank you to all of those I have worked with here at The Recorder — past and present. They are family.

I also want to thank all of our readers and advertisers over the years. Without you, we wouldn’t exist.

It has been a lot of fun and rewarding to have guided this newspaper and its efforts to keep the citizens of this community informed for more than 20 years.

As Bob Hope would say, “Thanks for the memories.” Rick Elkins Retired publisher
