Betty Jean Gibson

Betty Jean Gibson, 78 of Porterville, CA passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

Betty was born on August 30, 1939 in El Centro, CA to Carl and Ann Porter. She had 4 brothers. In 1948 she moved with her family to Porterville, CA where she later met her husband, Merle Gibson. They were married on October 10, 1954. Together they raised 5 children while living in Porterville, CA and Turner, Oregon. Betty worked as a psych tech for many years until her and Merle opened a care home. Over the years they provided care for many disabled clients and foster children.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Carl, three of her brothers, Jimmy, Rockne, and Mike, and her two sons, Dennis and Kenneth.

She is survived by her husband Merle, her mother and stepfather, Ann and Gilbert Martin of Porterville, her daughters and sons in law: Rowena and Johnnie Isaacs of Visalia, CA; Peggy and Tom Fossett of Porterville; and Jackie and Leon Brown of Fresno, CA; her brother and sister in law Don and Mary Porter of Porterville, CA; 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 4 foster sons Tyler, Daniel, Rahim, and Nicholas and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Vandalia Cemetery on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM with a memorial service to follow at the LDS Chapel, 1164 N. Newcomb, Porterville, CA.
