The Partnership Academy of Business (PAB) at Porterville High School welcomed a new group of freshmen last week as they began their trip through high school. Over 80 freshmen attended the freshman kickoff at Sierra View Medical Center, led primarily by a group of upperclassmen PAB students.
These PAB “ambassadors” took hours out of their busy schedules to prepare and present extensive presentations for the incoming freshman class. The freshmen were given a glimpse of how their future might play out as members of PAB by hearing from actual PAB members themselves.
Incoming students learned how PAB offers many great opportunities, such as the Tulare County Federal Credit Union’s on-campus branch: the only high school financial institution in the county. Freshmen were also shown how internships with businesses in the community are offered and even required to graduate from the PAB. These internships help prepare students for real life when they get a job as they grow older.
Freshmen also were informed about teachers and staff involved in PAB, with the goal to help students succeed in high school and prepare for what lies ahead. The PAB teachers push, in particular, A-G requirements, which are course requirements a student must meet to be eligible for acceptance into a four-year college or university immediately out of high school.
The ambassadors also presented a miniature fashion show to demonstrate appropriate and inappropriate clothing for interviews. Four times a year, PAB students “Dress for Success” by wearing clothes suitable for an interview throughout the school day, which is just one of the many ways PAB helps prepare its students for the future.
The students were also encouraged by PAB Advisory Board member, Dennis Sexton, to get involved in the pathway. The ambassadors explained how PAB has impacted their lives and inspired the freshmen class to make the most out of their high school and PAB experience.
Freshman Jayden Gammon remembered the event as “a great presentation because it showed us how to be successful in PAB and prepared us for what is to come.” He plans on being more involved with the pathway in the future.
PAB has impacted the lives of students in the past, and continues to do so to this day.
