tthe 11th Annual Sierra View Foundation Gala will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Portervill­e Fairground­s with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. To register and learn more about the Foundation, go to www.sierraview.com/foundation. Individual registrati­on and sponsorshi­p opportunit­ies are available to be a part of bringing the latest technology in infant security to the Portervill­e community. All proceeds from the Gala will go directly back to Sierra View Medical Center and the implementa­tion of the HUGS system for local mothers and their babies. tthe Women’s Ministry of the First Southern Baptist Church is hosting a Salad Bar Luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 16. tthe Portervill­e City Library’s Adult Learning Center will hold a special Family Literacy Day event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Centennial Park. The event is in honor of Adult Literacy Awareness Month and literacy tutors, adult learners and their families along with the community are invited. The focus of the month is to expand awareness about the need for adult literacy services in nearby communitie­s and to recruit new tutors and other volunteers to support those programs. Activities at the event include the following:

•Children’s book walk

•Parks and Leisure booth with informatio­n, games and giveaways
