Marauders girls golf down Hawks

Monache High School girls golf defeated Mission Oak 254-286 in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League match at Tulare Golf Course.

Abigail Choi and Sandra Renteria were Monache’s medalists with scores of 46. Kaitlin Choi carded a 52, followed by Vannessa Mendoza with a 54, Danielle Margosian with a 56 and newcomer Janelle Camarena with a season-low 66.

MHS coach Dave Koontz said the team had an excellent match and looked to have finally come into their own.

Portervill­e girls golf beat Delano 285-360 on the road for the Panthers’ first East Yosemite League win on Wednesday.

Angela Eugene was the Panthers’ medalist with a score of 52. Eugene was followed by Kayla Johnson and Aunika Marquez with 56, Vashti Guzman with 58, Dora Jimenez with 63 and Lili Garcia carding a 70.

PHS head coach David Herrera said Delano’s course was smaller, but very narrow so players have to be accurate with a good short game.

“The girls did very well and are still showing improvemen­ts,” said Herrera. It was the first time this season that Portervill­e broke 300.

GIRLS TENNIS

Granite Hills 6 Sierra Pacific 3

Granite Hills girls tennis defeated Sierra Pacific 6-3 on the road in Wednesday’s East Sequoia League match.

The Grizzlies took a 4-2 lead with wins in singles from No. 2 Kellyann Whited (8-6) , No. 4 Mary Navarro (8-5), No. 5 Jelitza Alcantar (8-3) and No. 6 Sara Lor (8-1).

In doubles Whited and Leelu Amparano won the No. 2 doubles match 8-7 for GHHS while Griselda Huerta and Yatziri Gonzalez sealed the win with an 8-1 No. 3 doubles victory.

Granite Hills head coach Shelly Lozano said Whited played amazing after getting a tough singles win and then teaming up with Amparano for doubles. She added that Lor is recuperati­ng from a couple of injuries, but had an outstandin­g No. 6 singles match.

“Our girls are showing great improvemen­t and I’m proud to say that we’re not only a team but a family as well,” said Lozano.

Monache 8 Tulare Western 0

Monache girls tennis continued their East Yosemite League undefeated streak with a 8-0 win over Tulare Western at home Wednesday.

In singles, MHS No. 1 Maddie Giannetto won 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 Raquel Calo 6-0, 6-1; Zannah Castaneda 6-0, 6-0; No. 5 Keyla Cantu won 6-4, 6-1 and Danielle Borromeo won 7-5, 6-0. No. 4 Alyssa Ragassa lost her first set 6-3 but won her next one 6-4 and the tiebreaker 10-5.

In doubles for Monache, Giannetto and Cantu teamed up for an 8-3 win in the No. 2 doubles, while Reynah Leal and Abigail Sotelo won the No. 3 match 9-7. Calo and Castaneda were tied 5-5 in the No. 1 doubles match before it was called due to darkness.

GIRLS WATER POLO

Monache 15 Strathmore 4

Monache girls water polo defeated Strathmore 15-4 at home in Wednesday’s non-league game.

For the Marauders, Dalaine Beardsly led MHS with eight goals followed by Rayleen Jensen with six. Emily Chapman and Mason Beardsly also had one goal each. Claire Schrein made nine saves. Maddy Chapman had four assists while Marie Lobue and Emily Adame each had three.

MHS head coach Brandon Weaver said that the win was more of a team effort than the stats showed, adding that Ava Lobue and Tracy Mccoy contribute­d a lot.

For the Spartans Sam Dieterle led with two goals while Hannah Hartsell and Madison Bower had one each.

Portervill­e 12 Kingsburg 5

Portervill­e girls water polo defeated Kingsburg 12-5 at home in Tuesday’s non-league game.

Shyanne Rainey led the Panthers with five goals followed by Rosemary Chapman with four. Joanna Scheer, Alyssa Bodoh and Tristin Bennett each had one goal apiece. Chapman also had four assists while Bennett, Bodoh and Rainey each had one.

Goalie Samantha Rainey made 11 saves.
