Applaud Public Lands volunteers
W e tip our cap to the more than 300 people, who volunteered during Saturday’s National Public Lands Day at Success Lake.
They spent the day cleaning, shoveling sand and restoring the playground, planting trees and building gardens, and doing general landscape improvement and maintenance work. The day was organized by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
NPLD is great opportunity for people to give back to the areas that offer so much to the local community. Success Lake and similiar areas provide income to the local economy, creat jobs, are home to species of fish and wildlife, and offer great recreation opportunities.
National Public Lands Day has been held on the last Saturday of September since 1994. Its goal is to celebrate enjoyment of outdoor public spaces such as parks and forests while offering people who enjoy those spaces a chance to give back through volunteering.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands.
Free entry to day-use areas for volunteers participating in the event was also made available as well as lunch.
People from all walks of life and backgrounds and several civic clubs took part Saturday in giving back to a valued piece of the community.
Your contributions are appreciated.
