Spartans girls tennis top Grizzlies

The Strathmore High School girls tennis team defeated Granite Hills 8-1 at home Tuesday in both team’s final East Sequoia League match of the regular season.

The Strathmore High School girls tennis team defeated Granite Hills 8-1 at home Tuesday in both team’s final East Sequoia League match of the regular season.

Winning the match in singles after taking a 5-1 lead, the Spartans swept the doubles with ease. No. 1 Arelli Adams and Zoe Vasquez didn’t drop a game in their 8-0 win, while No. 3 Annabelle Rivera and Hennasey Mendoza won 8-1. No. 2 Summer Aqra and Lauren Cometa won their match 8-4.

In singles No. 1 Adam and No. 2 Vasquez won their matches 8-5, while No. 5 Ariana Mata won 8-3 and No. 6 Aqra won 8-6. The No. 4 singles match was a close one, with Cometa beating Granite Hills Jelitza Alcantar 8-7 and then 10-8 in a tiebreaker. The Grizzlies lone win came from Mary Navarro in an 8-5 victory in the No. 3 match.

Strathmore (8-6 ESL) and Granite Hills (7-10, 7-7 ESL) begin the postseason Thursday at Sierra Pacific High School with the ESL championsh­ip.

BOYS WATER POLO Granite Hills 16 Taft 3

Granite Hills’ Salvador Ibarra had 10 goals and two assists in the Grizzles 16-3 win at Taft in Tuesday’s East Sequoia League boys water polo game.

Jose Miguel Lopez Arroyo and Tommy Ensaldo had two goals each while Cuahtemoc Velarde and Juan Pablo Lopez Arroyo had one goal apiece. Jose also led the team in steals with seven while goalie Stephen Land had 13 saves.

Strathmore 21 Mission Oak 8

Strathmore’s Corey Perigo, Sam Wilkinson and Moses Bower had five goals apiece in the Spartans 21-8 win over Mission Oak in Tuesday’s East Sequoia League boys water polo game.

Playing in Tulare, Cotter Ashcraft, Carsen Boudreax and Owen Patterson each contribute­d two goals apiece. Bower also had five assists and five steals while goalie Tyler Maita finished with eight saves.

GIRLS WATER POLO Granite Hills 15 Taft 9

Granite Hills’ Alexa Gutierrez had seven goals in the Grizzlies 15-9 win at Taft in Tuesday’s East Sequoia League girls water polo game.

Jacqueline Garibay and Mackenzie Thomason contribute­d four goals apiece while goalie Taneyea Boyd finished with 15 saves.

GIRLS GOLF Portervill­e 262 Delano 337

Portervill­e girls golf played enough holes to defeat Delano 262-337 in Tuesday’s East Yosemite League match at River Island Country Club.

Julia Hunter carded a 52 while Angela Eugene had a 47 with one hole left to play. With two holes left to play Aunika Marquez was at a 57, Kayla Johnson a 66, Uniese Carrillo a 53 and Dora Jimenez also at 53. The match was called due to darkness.
