Panthers top Hawks in cross country meet
The Porterville High School girls and boys cross country teams defeated Mission Oak Wednesday in an East Yosemite League dual meet at the Porterville Sports Complex.
Edging out the Hawks by just one point, the Panthers girls team won 2728, while the boys won 20-35.
Porterville swept the top three spots in the boys 5K race with Jose Tamez placing first with a time of 17 minutes and 53 seconds. Tamez was followed by Jonathan Mireles (18:42), Xavier Fernandez (18:44), Jorge Gallardo (19:22) and Joseph Rojas (19:32) in second, third, sixth and eighth place, respectively.
In the girls 5K race Molly Mulvaney led the pack with a time of 21:31 for a first-place finish. Mariela Duran (23:54), Anahi Alvarez (24:01), Jaelyn Estrada (24:03) and Odalys Rivera (24:09) took fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth place, respectively.
