Panthers top Hawks in cross country meet

The Portervill­e High School girls and boys cross country teams defeated Mission Oak Wednesday in an East Yosemite League dual meet at the Portervill­e Sports Complex.

Edging out the Hawks by just one point, the Panthers girls team won 2728, while the boys won 20-35.

Portervill­e swept the top three spots in the boys 5K race with Jose Tamez placing first with a time of 17 minutes and 53 seconds. Tamez was followed by Jonathan Mireles (18:42), Xavier Fernandez (18:44), Jorge Gallardo (19:22) and Joseph Rojas (19:32) in second, third, sixth and eighth place, respective­ly.

In the girls 5K race Molly Mulvaney led the pack with a time of 21:31 for a first-place finish. Mariela Duran (23:54), Anahi Alvarez (24:01), Jaelyn Estrada (24:03) and Odalys Rivera (24:09) took fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth place, respective­ly.
