SVMC celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women during their lifetimes and Sierra View Medical Center is hosting a Fight Like A Girl event on Thursday, Oct. 19, to support those who have been affected by this disease.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the local hospital is participating in various efforts to raise awareness for and support the national effort. Each month, Sierra View’s Roger S. Good Cancer Treatment Center (CTC) fosters a community for cancer patients and survivors by hosting a cancer support group called Cancer Connection.
The support group aims to provide a sense of encouragement and aid for all who are affected by cancer through the implementation of activities, demonstrations and series that focus on physical, mental and emotional wellness.
For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the CTC is partnering with Larry Segovia of the Porterville Fire Department for a free self-defense demonstration. The event will also include giveaways such as free mammograms, refreshments, breast cancer education and support for cancer patients and their families.
Fight Like A Girl is free and open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sierra View Courtyard. All are welcome and encouraged to attend to support the efforts of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In addition, Sierra View Medical Center is also participating in a social media campaign to raise awareness this month and offer advice for detecting and living with breast cancer. To participate, Facebook users can follow the campaign by liking @sierraviewmedical’s page.
