Marauders volleyball top Panthers
The Monache High School volleyball team finished the regular season with a 3-1 win over rival Porterville in Wednesday’s East Yosemite League match.

Every set was close with the Marauders (24-9, 7-3 EYL) winning the first two 25-23 and 25-19, but the Panthers (16-12, 4-6 EYL) came back to win the third set 25-21. Monache won the final set 25-19.
Hailey Kelley led the Marauders in kills with 13 and also had three blocks. Andrea Lopez led the team in digs with 14, tallying 11 kills and one block as well.
Samantha Diaz led the team in 20 assists and four digs. Gabby Cox had 19 assists and six digs. Madisyn Baxter finished with eight kills and two blocks, while Taylor Chavez had seven kills and six digs. Derica Ferris played libero and had nine digs. Libero Brianna Johnson was out due to a concussion she suffered Monday against Western.
For Porterville, Delainee True finished with 28 assists, Kaila Keovilaysane had 20 digs and three aces, Seneca Bowles had 13 kills and three aces, and Kaitlyn Keovilaysane had 10 kills.
With the win Monache finished EYL tied for second with Tulare Union (22-12, 7-3 EYL).

Porterville and Monache girls water polo are co-east Yosemite League champions after the Panthers beat the Marauders 11-6 at home in Wednesday’s final EYL game.
Rosemary Chapman led Porterville (20-7, 7-1
EYL) with six goals followed by Alyssa Bodoh with two. Shyanne Rainey, Johanna Scheer and Allison Tristao scored one goal apiece.
“The girls did great tonight,” PHS head coach Lance Hyder said. “I love the way they competed from the first whistle till the end of the game. All four quarters they stuck with
the game plan. It was a great team effort. Rosemary Chapman was exceptional tonight.”
Hyder added, “Monache is a good team and it is great to be able to share the league title with them.”
For Monache (22-7, 7-1 EYL), seniors Dalaine Beardsly and Rayleen Jensen scored three goals apiece.
