The fate of a singlefamily residence on South G Street is now in the hands of the Porterville City Council.

The council Tuesday will consider authorizing staff to distribute a Request for Proposals (RFP) to licensed demolition contractors for the demolition of the home at 87 S. G St.

City Public Works Director Mike Reed said in a staff report that on June 10, 2015 the City of Porterville purchased the residence, which is south of Olive Avenue on G Street. He said the 1,224 square foot home and 432 square foot detached garage were deemed a nuisance and purchased by the city through an agreement with Tulare County for the tax-defaulted property.

Reed said the city has the funding necessary to demolish the structures on the property and noted that staff is currently seeking quotes, which he said are anticipated to be approximately $36,500. Reed said the cost would cover lead and asbestos abatement, structure demolition and the haul off of materials.

Funds for the demolition of the residence, Reed said, are available through the Community Development Block Grant funding. Once cleared, Reed said the property will be donated to a nonprofit affordable housing developer selected through a competitive selection process.
