Monache cross country wins EYL again
For the seventh straight year Monache High School boys cross country ran away with the East Yosemite League championship title. Competing in Wednesday’s EYL championship meet at Live Oak Park in Tulare, the Marauders girls team also won their sixth consecutive EYL title.
Monache’s boys swept the competition, finishing first through fifth for a perfect score of 15 points. Senior Jaden Uphoff claimed the individual title, winning the 3.1-mile race in a time of 15 minutes and 23 seconds. Ivan Mendez (16:00) was second, followed by Joel Garcia (16:04), Aaron Aparicio (16:12), and Isaiah Sotelo (16:23). Giovanni Sanchez (16:42) and Joachim Del Rosario (16:47) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
For the girls race senior Imelda Suarez came away with the individual title, winning the race in a time of 18:28. Marilou Ruiz (18:57) was second, followed by Chanel Bradley (19:34) in fourth, Aislin Taylor (19:37) in fifth, and Alyssa Quinonez (20:06) in seventh combined for an impressive score of just 19 points. Charlotte Kouyoumtjian (21:56) finished 16th and Adrianna Loya (22:37) 25th to round out Monache’s top 7.
In the freshmen and sophomore boys race, Monache’s Isaiah Mendez led his team to their eighth straight EYL title, winning the individual title in 10:54 on the 2-mile course. Teammates Adrian Martinez (10:58), Bryan Perez (11:13), and Nick Rodriguez (11:29) followed right behind in second through fourth place. The hero of the day was Isaac Ceballos (11:51) in ninth place, who beat his previous best by two minutes, becoming Monache’s final scorer and limiting the damage to a mere 19 points.
