MHS girls, boys polo qualify for state
Teams are seventh seed in Div. II regionals
After finishing second in the Valley water polo playoffs, the Monache girls and boys teams were each seeded seventh in the Northern California Division II playoffs.
The CIF website only listed regional championship brackets for Socal and Norcal boys and Norcal girls. Each regional had two divisions. Tuesday’s winners advance to the regional semifinals on Nov. 18
The Marauders girls team (24-8, 7-1 East Yosemite League) will play second-seeded Sanger High School in Sanger (26-6, 10-0 County Metro) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 in the first round of the CIF Norcal Div. II Girls Water Polo Championships.
In their only meeting this season, Sanger defeated Monache, 9-8, back on Aug. 26.
Monache was seeded second in the Central Section Div. II playoffs and advanced to the final, where they played top-seeded Redwood. The Rangers (29-2, 12-0 West Yosemite) topped the Marauders, 8-7 in sudden-death overtime to claim the Valley title on Thursday, Nov. 9.
Redwood was seeded fourth in the state regional and will host No. 5 Carondelet (18-7, 5-3 East Bay Valley) of Concord.
Sanger, the two seed in Central Section Div. I playoffs, is coming off a 5-4 loss to fourth-seeded Clovis (20-13, 7-3 Tri River) in the Valley final. Clovis was seeded
No. 6 in Norcal Div. I. BOYS Monache’s boys (19-12, 5-3 EYL) play second-seeded Clovis North (24-7, 8-2 Tri River) in Clovis at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 in the first round of the CIF Norcal Div. II Boys Water Polo Championships.
The second-seeded Marauders lost to topseeded Garces, 16-10, in the Central Section Div. II boys final on Thursday, Nov. 9.
Garces was seeded fourth in the Norcal Regional and will host fifthseeded Marin Academy (20-5, 6-0 North Bay) of San Rafael.
Clovis North defeated Monache 17-6 in their only meeting this season on Sept. 29.
In a battle of the top seeds in Div. I in the Valley playoffs, Clovis North fell to favored Buchanan, 8-6. Buchanan was seeded No. 5 in the Norcal Div. I bracket.
