Meeting topic is Quaker Oaks wetland restoration
Steven Lee will speak about the challenges involved with restoring a portion of Quaker Oaks Farm to a wetland on Friday, Nov. 17. Lee is the project leader.
This will be a joint meeting of the Sierra Club Kern Kaweah Chapter and the Tulare County Audubon Society. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Tulare County Board of Supervisors Administration Building, 2800 W. Burrel Ave., Visalia.
A no-host dinner is planned prior to the meeting at 5:15 p.m. at Marie Calendar’s in Visalia.
The drought years inflicted a heavy toll on the Valley Oak trees at Quaker Oaks Farm west of Kaweah Oaks Preserve. Dozens of dead oak trees catch the eye in this area from the highway.
Deep Creek traditionally watered this area but no water was sent through in the dry years. Quaker Oaks has invested in restoring this area to a wetland.
Leader of the project, Lee, will present the history, challenges and collaborations involved in this unique local restoration.
The free meeting is open to the public.
