Norma Sandra Carlisle

-

Norma Sandra Carlisle passed peacefully at home on November 21, 2017, with her husband at her side. She was born at home in Porterville, Ca on October 5, 1934 to Nordica Beryl Shry and Milton Henry Shry. She attended Olive Street School, Bartlett Junior High and graduated from Porterville High School with the class of 1952. While in high school, she was a song leader and served as Senior Class Secretary.

She attended San Jose State College for one year before marrying Jim Carlisle on June 20, 1953. They lived briefly in Fairfield, Ca before returning to the Carlisle Family Ranch in Ducor, Ca where they raised their three children. She was always supportive of her children's activities from scouting to 4H to various sports.

She was employed as the Ducor School Secretary for 12 years and was a switchboard operator at Porterville College before transferring to the admissions office where she spent 17 years assisting students and faculty.

She enjoyed playing hand bells with the church and was active with the First Congregational Church Women's Fellowship, PEO Chapter UA, and Current Topics groups. She loved watching her San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors. She was an avid reader and loved working in her beautiful yard. She also enjoyed traveling both near and far, especially if escaping the summer heat. She took many wonderful trips across the US, Canada and Europe, but Morro Bay, Ca was always her favorite place to relax and soak up the cooling fog.

She never got tired of dancing and her family and friends loved to watch Norma and Jim together on the dance floor.

She leaves her husband, Jim; her three children, Mike (Brenda) Carlisle of Visalia; Marcia (Denis) Doran; Karen (Thad) Reece; her three grandchildren, Scott (Lindsey) Carlisle of Exeter; Shannon (Dustin) Behnke of West Sacramento, William Reece; and her sister, Joyce Muckleroy.

The family would especially like to thank Trudy Sanchez, Janice Collins and Ashley Moore for the wonderful care they gave Norma. She truly loved them and they loved her for her continual good humor.

Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at noon on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at First Congregational Church. Luncheon reception to follow at Nuckols Ranch.

The family requests memorial donations be made to First Congregational Church or Valley Adult Day Services.
