MHS boys bounce back
The Monache High School boys basketball team bounced back from a 65-32 loss to Bakersfield Wednesday to beat Highland 57-42 Thursday in the second round of the Lloyd Williams KSFCU Shootout tournament at North High School.
Chirrag Sidhu led the Marauders with nine points followed by Marlon Johnson, Alex Phipps, and John Perez with 8 points each.
Monache plays again today against either Independence or Kennedy.

Monache 53 Edison 46
Monache girls basketball won their second game of the Hoover Holiday Classic with a 53-46 win over Edison Thursday afternoon at Hoover High School.
Cieanna Correa led Monache with 12 points followed by Mackenna Cabeje with nine points.

Granite Hills 3 Summit Charter 2
Down 2-1 at the half, Granite Hills’ Jamilex Vieyra scored the unassisted game-winning goal from 20 yards out to defeat Summit Charter 3-2 in Thursday’s non-league home game.
Veronica Paz had two goals for the Grizzlies off assists from Vieyra and Veronica Buckman.
GHHS head coach Gabe Rodriguez said defenders Christina Gonzalez, Maria Sierra, Cat Ballesteros and Abby Bugarin played lights out in the second half which allowed the Grizzlies to comeback.

Isabela Baez scored Strathmore’s lone goal in the Spartans 3-1 loss to Central Valley Christian in Thursday’s nonleague road game.
