Cardinals down Panthers in boys soccer tourney

The Lindsay High School boys soccer team defeated Portervill­e 3-0 in the first game of the Lindsay Annual Cup Friday morning.

Julio Godoy scored the first goal on a rebound after a Chris Orozco cross to Moises Betencourt was blocked by Portervill­e’s goalie. Marcos Ceballos scored the next goal unassisted from about 20 yards out. Ceballos also scored the final goal in the final minutes of the game off an assist from Ethan Duran.

Portervill­e 6 Firebaugh 1

Portervill­e boys soccer beat Firebaugh 6-1 in their second game of the Lindsay Annual Cup Friday morning.

David Sandoval, Jesus Sanchez and Rogelio Bedolla each scored two goals.

Strathmore 1 Firebaugh 0

Strathmore boys soccer beat Firebaugh 1-0 in their second game at the Lindsay Annual Cup Friday afternoon.

Luis Prado scored the Spartans’ lone goal in the final minutes of the game.

In the morning, Strathmore lost 1-0 to the defending Annual Cup champions Roosevelt.

MHS 2-0 at Lemoore Tourney

Monache boys soccer won both of their games Friday at the Lemoore High School tournament.

In the first game the Marauders beat Hanford West 2-0 with Israel Rodriguez scoring in the first half and Carlos Magana scoring in the second half.

Against Whitney, Monache won on penalty kicks 4-3 after ending regulation with neither team scoring. Magana scored the winning penalty kick.

The Marauders qualified for the gold bracket and will play El Diamante.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Granite Hills 64 Templeton 50

Granite Hills boys basketball improved to 6-1 with a 64-50 win over Templeton Friday in the Corcoran High School tournament. The Grizzlies face Corcoran today at 4:30 in the championsh­ip game.

Against Templeton, Austin Edmond led GHHS with 16 points followed by Shane Lozano with 15. Miguel Felix finished with 13 points and Armando Cabrera had 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bakersfiel­d Chr. 68 Strathmore 48

Strathmore girls basketball could not overcome 38 turnovers and lost 68-48 to Bakersfiel­d Christian in the semifinals of the 35th Annual George Glover Memorial on Friday at Strathmore High School.

The Spartans were lead by Jazmine Soto with 24 points, six rebound and eight steals. Vanessa Chapa contribute­d 15 points.

Strathmore will play Exeter in the third-place game at 4:30 p.m. today followed by the championsh­ip game between BCHS and Portervill­e High School at 6 p.m.
