Grizzlies girls basketball rout Redcats

The Granite Hills High School girls basketball team beat Fowler, 56-36, Tuesday evening at home in a non-league game.

It was another big night for the Grizzlies’ Yvette Felipe who posted 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the team. Jorden Keene followed with six points and nine rebounds. Nine out of 13 Grizzlies scored in Tuesday’s game.

GHHS head coach Randy Rippee said he was proud of how well the girls played together.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Strathmore 53 Orcutt Academy 50

Strathmore boys basketball beat Orcutt Academy, 53-50, in the second game of the Frank Ainley Tournament at Woodlake High School Tuesday evening.

Nick Salas posted a double-double and led the team in scoring with 12 points and 10 rebounds, along with two blocks. Miguel Samano had 10 points and Jadon Guire finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

William Reece and Deandre Bravo had big minutes off the bench as well according to SHS head coach Justin St. Clair.

Strathmore plays Wonderful Prep today at 3:30 p.m.

Strathmore boys soccer lost 5-0 to Tulare Western in Tuesday’s no-league game on the road.

Strathmore girls soccer lost 5-0 to Tulare Western at home in Tuesday’s nonleague game,

SHS head coach Hector Gonzalez said the team had a really bad first half and were down 5-0 at halftime, but played a lot better in the second half.

“We created several opportunit­ies, but we couldn’t finish,” Gonzalez said. “[We] also played much better defense, so overall I think the team may have found itself in the second half and we can use it to move forward and grow from here out.”

GIRLS WRESTLING

PHS 5th at Ridgeview

Portervill­e girls wrestling placed fifth out of 20 teams at the Born Vicious Tournament hosted by Ridgeview High School in Bakersfiel­d on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Lizeth Fuentes went undefeated with a 4-0 record to place first in the 160-pound weight class for PHS. Madison Madina (143) placed fourth with a 3-2 record. Both Julissa Caballero (137) and Alexa Salinas (170) placed fifth with 2-2 records. Sequoia Cook (170) also went 2-2, but placed sixth.

Ed Patino Sr. is the new head coach of the Panthers girls wrestling team.
