A cold low pressure system was expected to pass over the Valley this morning, bringing the possibility of light rain followed by freezing temperatures for the remainder of the week.

The best chance for measurable rain, according to Weatherag meteorologist Scott Borgioli, was this morning north of Tulare County.

“Light isolated to possibly briefly scattered valley showers are possible mainly Wednesday,” Borgioli said. “Any rain that falls will range from a trace to less than a tenth.”

Once the unstable air moves through and is replaced with high pressure, many parts of the Valley will be faced with freezing overnight lows that could dip to 23-28 degrees.

“There are worries about the citrus since this is looking like a multi-day event,” Borgioli said, adding that the probability of a hard freeze was medium to high. “Cold low temps may continue into Saturday and Sunday mornings.”

Winds and any clouds banked against the Sierra’s Wednesday night may offset how cold it gets, but Thursday night will likely be the coldest of the period with Friday night a close second.

There is a good chance of frost for Thursday and Friday mornings and patchy night and morning fog as well if enough rain falls.

Daytime highs through Friday will vary from the low/mid 50’s to around 60 across the local Valley.

Christmas eve, Christmas day, and Dec 26 are expected to be dry across the Valley, Borgioli said.
