Council OKS Lunch Box Catering
Restaurant to operate at 298 N. Main St.
Porterville residents will soon have a new place to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner when visiting the city’s downtown.
That new place is The Lunch Box Catering Company, which was awarded Tuesday by the Porterville City Council the lease agreement for suites two and three at 298 N. Main St. for a term of five years.
Jenni Byers, the city’s community development director, said Kyler Marcelino and Seth Schultz, who will run the restaurant, have an option to extend the terms of agreement for an additional period of five years.
On Aug. 31 of this year, Byers said the former tenant of suites two and three at 298 N. Main St., — Hoagie’s Heroes Sandwiches — terminated its lease agreement. The Porterville City Council directed staff to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP), and as such noted that an RFP was issued on Nov. 3 and kept open until Dec. 4.
Staff advertised the RFP in various ways.
In addition to the required legal notice, an article was written in the Porterville Recorder, a segment on KTIP Radio was run, as well as various Facebook posts, and an e-mail to the Porterville Chamber of Commerce’s contact list. The RFP also included a preproposal insepction that took place on Nov. 14, 2017.
Byers said the city received one response to the RFP, which she said was from The Lunch Box Catering Company.
Staff evaluated the proposal using several factors including the proposers’ experience in the restaurant business, the demonstration of financial ability and sufficient resources to operate the restaurant, and to maintain the proposed monthly lease amount.
After reviewing the proposal received, Byers said staff recommended awarding the contract to Marcelino and Schultz. She said their management team has 24 years of experience in the restaurant industry.
The Lunch Box Catering Company currently has three locations, including two in Visalia and one in Exeter. Consistent with the lease appraisal, they are proposing an initial monthly rent of $3,600.
