While speaking with one of my readers this week, I was asked what my purpose was for writing these articles. My purpose began with my students at Porterville College. Every semester, I had them do a certain weekly assignment. They started the class by receiving a list of over 50 things they could do to take charge of their health. There were things like: “Drink ½ your body weight in ounces of water every day,” “turn off the TV and play outside with a child,” “improve eating habits by chewing each bite of food until juice,” “drink fluids with no ice when food is in the stomach,” “drink water to reduce the need for pain killers,” “reduce sugar intake,” etc.

The students picked one thing to do for a week. They used it as an experiment. Their action brought familiarity with their body’s response to things they did. If they liked the way their body felt after a week, they could choose to make the action a part of their lifestyle. If they didn’t like their result, they never had to do that experiment again.

Reading their papers was the highlight of my week. I began to imagine reaching out to the community with the same ideas and giving people the opportunity to experiment with their body’s responses. I called it “taking charge.” Each experiment is a “Tid-bit of Health.”

The ideas developed into a program for “community and patient education”. The program is the Body And Soul and Earth (BASE) Restoration program that goes on at Family HELM Health Center. Over 200 people are participating in the program and the number is growing daily. They are receiving results that make them very happy.

This article is one place where the Tid-bits are given. Around the “BASE Table” is another place. The “Table Tidbits” are personalized to the specific questions asked by the individual sitting there.

I received permission to share a story I heard this week. It involves a touchy subject that all of us ladies experience, but don’t usually talk about except to other ladies. The next day, I heard the same story from another lady who whispered to me about her sister. Because I know that many of our sisters are quietly suffering out there, I chose to share this story.

Day 1: On Aug. 17, 2017, our story-teller came to the BASE Table looking for answers to migraine headaches and lack of energy. She began to take the “Plan of Care”; the first step in the program.

Day 2: She had a migraine headache 30 minutes after leaving BASE. She took migraine pills and went to bed for two days. She craved soda and ate a chocolate bar.

Day 3-5: Migraine continued with sinus pressure. Washed sinuses with salt water.

Day 7-8: No sleep all night. All joints hurt. Lower back radiated heat. Began her period. (She usually has 3-4 days of very heavy flow then more days of lighter flow while using boxes and boxes of pads. She experiences horrible cramps, sciatic nerve pain, and no energy. She never wanted to leave the house much less travel out of town.)

Day 9-11: Period continues.

On Jan. 9, 2018, she told the rest of her story. For the last four months, she has had no pain, no migraine headaches, lots of pads left in the boxes and energy to spare.

So, what was with all the pain and suffering she went through for her first month on the program? That’s what it’s like to travel the Natural Healing Pathway. The body will detox, clean and rebuild old worn-out parts before it can express health.

Check out the BASE Restoration program this afternoon from 2-4:30 p.m. at Old Sante Fe Depot Senior Center, 280 N. Fourth St., Porterville. It is free and open to the public. Your story can join the others.

Until then … Take charge! … Sylvia.
