Cardinals boys soccer tops Grizzlies

Lindsay High School’s boys soccer team picked up 6-1 win over Granite Hills in an East Sequoia League game at home Thursday evening.

Marcos Ceballos led the Cardinals in scoring with two goals while Julio Godoy, Emiliano Coronoa, Jose Ortizes and Ulises Lopez each scored one goal.

For Granite Hills, Jonah Flores scored the team’s lone goal. Strathmore 5 Sierra Pacific 1

Strathmore boys soccer remains the only undefeated team in the East Sequoia League after defeating Sierra Pacific 5-1 on the road Thursday evening.

The Spartans were led in scoring by Osvaldo Ibarra with two goals. Enrique Gomez, Luis Prado and Ivan Cid each scored one goal for Strathmore as well.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Portervill­e 46 Tulare Union 32

Portervill­e boys basketball won their first East Yosemite League game, a 46-32 victory over Tulare Union on the road Thursday evening.

The Panthers held a slight 16-15 lead over the Tribe in the first quarter before pulling away in the second quarter with a 12-point quarter while holding Tulare Union to only seven points. In the final quarter Portervill­e scored 15 points to Tulare Union’s three.

GHHS drops ESL dual meet to Corcoran

Granite Hills boys wrestling team won four out of the eight matches wrestled at home against Corcoran in Wednesday’s East Sequoia League dual meet, but had to forfeit four matches due to injuries.

The Grizzlies’ wins came from pins by Brandon Mcdarment (132 pounds), freshman Rudy Esquivel

(138), sophomore Tommy Martinez (182) and freshman Espiridion Zuniga (195) who was subbing in for Granite Hills ranked junior Arturo Mendoza (195).

“We will get them when we are full strength in the league tourney,” GHHS head coach Dave Bartlett said. “What’s amazing about this squad, is we are highly talented, but all [freshmen] and [sophomores] except two [juniors]. We will be extremely formidable for the next three years.”
