Anthony Martin, director of school resources and support for Burton School District, announced Thursday his candidacy for Tulare County Superintendent of Schools.

Martin has 14 years of experience as an educator. For the past 9 years, three of which have been at Burton School District, Martin has working in leadership roles for Tulare County school districts.

He has been responsible for securing millions of dollars in state, federal and other funding for educational services.

Born and raised in Tulare County, Martin spent his childhood and teenage years growing up exploring the country fields of Poplar/cotton Center.

After graduating from Pleasant View School, Martin attended Monache High School and graduated in 2000.

He attended California State University Long Beach, and graduated in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies. He then moved back to Porterville, where he met his wife of 13 years and began to build his family of five boys.

Martin began his teaching career at Terra Bella Elementary School, teaching thirdfifth grade, and it is there where he feels his love for teaching and education grew exponentially.

While teaching during the day, Martin was completing his teaching credential, administrative credential and master’s of education through Chapman University in Visalia.

His experience in teaching and additional education led to an administrative role with Earlimart School District in 2009, where he served as a vice principal, instructional data specialist, and then director of state and federal programs.

Martin completed his educational doctorate in leadership and management through Capella University in March of 2013, and now serves as the director of educational services: school resources and support at Burton School District.

“My entire educational career has been, and will continue to be, dedicated to the students from the county where I was born, raised, and educated,” said Martin.

Martin currently serves on the Porterville Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, as treasurer of the Burton Educational Partnership Foundation, and as a PTA member.

Martin was recently awarded the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Pupil Personnel Administrator of the Year Award and Pupil Personnel Administrator of the Year award for Region 11.
