registration for the City of Porterville Youth Baseball League is currently underway. Increase your child's health and wellness by keeping them physically active. We welcome all skill levels and develop fundamentals, character and sportsmanship. The goal is to foster a positive, pressure free environment. It's the perfect fit for your child to truly enjoy the sport and want to return the following season. The league is designed for boys and girls ages 4-13 with a cost of $58. Practices will start in April with games beginning the first week in May. Register online or in person at the Heritage Center, and hurry — spots fill up quickly! Girls softball registration coming soon. the City of Porterville’s Jr. Pirates Track and Field Club is in its 11th year and offers an exciting opportunity for youth that fosters the development of track and field skills. The club, co-sponsored by Porterville College, is designed for boys and girls ages 9 and up. Participants will prepare to compete in track and field meets in and around the Porterville area. Registration begins Feb. 1 and the cost is only $36 per child. All practices take place at Porterville College beginning in March. Volunteer coaches are also needed! Parks and Leisure Services offers Open Gym Volleyball on Saturday evenings from 7-10 p.m. at the Santa Fe School Gym, 286 E. Orange Ave. The cost is $2 per player and open to ages 18 and older. the Monache High School baseball team’s annual “Meet the Marauders” dinner, raffle and silent auction will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 9, at the Porterville Veterans Memorial Building. Tickets for the fundraising dinner are available from Monache High School for $30 each or a table of eight can be purchased for $200. Meet the Marauders night is Monache baseball's main fundraiser for the year and all money raised will be used to improve the quality of the team and facilities. While the players have been working hard to maintain the fields, Monache is in need of annual equipment and facility improvements. If anyone has any questions or if Monache's athletic director and head baseball coach AJ Watts may be of any assistance, contact him at 793-3899.
