Kutless frontman keynote speaker for Man Alive

Jon Micah Sumrall, who is the lead singer and primary song writer of the Christian rock band Kutless, will give the keynote address at this year’s Man Alive Men’s Christian Conference on Saturday, March 17.

The annual event draws hundreds of men to share experience and worship together.

It will be held on Saturday, March 17, at the Portervill­e Nazarene Church at 2005 W. Olive. It will begin at 6:30 a.m. for registrati­on and breakfast. The main session begins at 8 a.m. and the event will conclude at 1:30 p.m.

This year’s event is entitled “A Time to Engage.”

Sumrall, who is a native of Ashland, Ore., and Kutless have sold nearly 3 million albums, have two Recording Industry Associatio­n of American certified gold records, and 12 number 1 radio singles. Sumrall has been a member of Kutless since he started the band with James Mead and Ryan Shrout in 2001. It began as the worship band, Call Box, while Sumrall was still in college.

Sumrall grew up in a Christian family and his dad was one of the pastors at Applegate Christian Fellowship. The entire family was involved with the church on a daily basis. By the time, he was 12 he was involved leading worship and was helping with some of the youth Sunday-school groups.

For the past 16 years, Sumrall has toured all around the world with Kutless, having released the radio smash hits “What Faith Can Do,” “Strong Tower,” “Sea of Faces,” “Carry Me to the Cross,” along with many others. He released his first solo record “Faith and Family” on Feb. 24, 2015. The album features both worship songs and love songs,

written with his marriage in mind.

He lives with his wife and two children in West Linn, Ore. Man Alive was founded in 2009 by Milt Davis and has grown in stature every year. It is a Christian Men’s Conference for the men of Portervill­e and the Central San Joaquin Valley.

Tickets are available online or at 38 W. Morton Ave., weekdays from noon to 2 p.m. Ticket prices are: $30 for adults and $5 for teenagers.
