PORTERVILL­E First United sermon topic announced

The Rev. Dave Hammelmann will deliver his reflection “Count Your Blessings” at 11 a.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church.

Hammelmann drew inspiratio­n for the sermon from 1 Thessaloni­ans 5:18 and Psalm 103:1-3.

Children will be excused to the nursery or their church school classes following the special music presentati­on.

Coffee Hour will follow the service and all are welcome.

The church will hold the following events:

The office will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19 in observance of President’s Day.

Dave and Gayle Hammelmann will host Wednesday Evening Bible Study at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 21.

The church will hold a clothing closet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3. Collection of donations are ongoing throughout the year. Those wanting to participat­e can drop off items at the church office from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday. The church holds clothing closets every first Saturday of the month.

The church will hold a food bank on March 15. Volunteers are encouraged to show up at noon. The food giveaway will start at 1 p.m. The church holds food banks every third Thursday of the month.

PORTERVILL­E Congregati­onal Church sermon set

The Rev. Kevin Roach will deliver his newest sermon “The Universal Covenant” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the First Congregati­onal Church.

Roach drew inspiratio­n for the sermon from Genesis 9:8-17.

Children will be excused for Sunday school at 11 a.m.

Roach will lead a Bible study at 9 a.m. Sunday in the fireplace room of the First Congregati­onal Church.

The topic is “The Book of John Chapter 14.” The lesson will be repeated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Anyone is encouraged to join the church for a Bake Potato Bar after church. The cost is $5 per potato.

The historic church is located at Fourth Street and Mill Avenue.
