Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Monday, January 26 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Portervill­e, for Iva “Jackie” Giefer, 101 of Strathmore who passed away February 19, 2018 on her birthday. The Reverend Guadalupe Vargas will officiate and interment will follow at Lindsay Cemetery.

Jackie, as she was known, was born February 19, 1917 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to John and Fanny Baker and spent her early years there. After losing both parents, Jackie at about age 10, and her siblings, were brought to California by their older brother to live with family members already living here. They first arrived in the Hollister area and moved around some before settling in Tulare County. Jackie married Daniel Giefer February 11, 1938 in Visalia and the Giefer family settled in Lindsay until 1952 when they bought their first orange grove and then moved to Strathmore. Jackie worked for several packing houses over the years as well as also working side by side with Dan on their own ranch until his death. She loved taking care of her grandkids and spending time with them. She also enjoyed dancing, crocheting and was quite the artist. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Giefer and all her siblings. She is survived by her daughter Bernice Berryhill and companion Jack Van Rooy of Visalia and her son Anthony Giefer and wife Karen of Lindsay; four grandchild­ren, nine great grandchild­ren and seven great great grandchild­ren as well as other relatives and friends.

At her request, no visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Optimal Hospice Care 2439 W Whitendale Ave Ste B, Visalia, CA 93277 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
