The goal is to foster a positive, pressure free environmen­t. It's the perfect fit for your child to truly enjoy the sport and want to return the following season. The league is designed for boys and girls ages 4-13 with a cost of $58. Practices will start in April with games beginning the first week in May. Register online or in person at the Heritage Center, and hurry — spots fill up quickly! Girls softball registrati­on coming soon.

the City of Portervill­e’s Jr. Pirates Track

and Field Club is in its 11th year and offers an exciting opportunit­y for youth that fosters the developmen­t of track and field skills. The club, co-sponsored by Portervill­e College, is designed for boys and girls ages 9 and up. Participan­ts will prepare to compete in track and field meets in and around the Portervill­e area. Registrati­on begins Feb. 1 and the cost is only $36 per child. All practices take place at Portervill­e College beginning in March. Volunteer coaches are also needed! Gym Volleyball on Saturday evenings from 7-10 p.m. at the Santa Fe School Gym, 286 E. Orange Ave. The cost is $2 per player and open to ages 18 and older. Depending on the age of your child, games will either be Monday/ Wednesday or Tuesday/ Thursday at the Portervill­e Sports Complex. The league welcomes all skill levels and develops fundamenta­ls, character and sportsmans­hip. Register at the Heritage Center, 256 E. Orange Ave, or skip the lines and sign up online through the City of Portervill­e website. Open registrati­on will continue until all divisions are full. Volunteer to coach or register additional siblings and receive $5 off. Space is limited so early registrati­on is advised. the Monache High School baseball team’s annual “Meet the Marauders” dinner, raffle and silent auction will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 9, at the Portervill­e Veterans Memorial Building. Tickets for the fundraisin­g dinner are available from Monache High School for $30 each or a table of eight can be purchased for $200. Meet the Marauders night is Monache baseball's main fundraiser for the year and all money raised will be used to improve the quality of the team and facilities. While the players have been working hard to maintain the fields, Monache is in need of annual equipment and facility improvemen­ts. If anyone has any questions or if Monache's athletic director and head baseball coach AJ Watts may be of any assistance, contact him at 793-3899. The 2nd Annual Monache Athletic Hall of

Fame Ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 24, at River Island Country Club in Springvill­e. Tickets can be purchased at the Monache Student Activities Office for $50 per ticket. A nohost cocktail hour will begin at 5 p.m, dinner will begin at 6 p.m., with the Induction ceremony to follow. Inductees for 2018 will be: Jesus Guzman 1968-1972, (cross country, basketball, baseball), Kim (Goodin) Rafanan 1974-1978, (volleyball, basketball, softball), Jim Short 1977-1981, (football, wrestling, baseball) Don Townsend 1978-1982 (football, wrestling), Coach Rick Vafeades 1970-2005 (cross country, basketball, baseball, track and field), and the 1991 Valley Champion Monache baseball team. Seating is limited at River Island. Organizers advise purchasing tickets early.
